Podcamp Toronto 2009 Evening Meetups

With so many folks attending Podcamp Toronto 2009, there are lots of opportunities to find some informal time to chat over dinner and/or drinks. Feel free to add your suggestions here, and consult the Podcamp Toronto 2009 Map for restaurant and bar ideas.

Friday, February 20

  • Informal meet-up at the Imperial PUBlic Library - UPSTAIRS (unofficial homebase of Toronto podcasters) -- probably 7-ish 'til whenever-ish. Note that there's not too much in the way of food at the Library, so you may want to grab a bite beforehand.
  • Kultura with Crosby. (Kultura, 169 King St. E.) Connie would like to introduce Torontonians and visitors to the fabulous Kultura, one of her most favourite restaurants. It is not inexpensive, but sure to delight. Roger Mooking is co-owner and executive chef with one of the best personal websites around. Connie has a reservation for 6 pm, so please email her to reserve your spot! conniecrosby@gmail.com
  • South Indian Thali with Rob Lee & Katherine Matthews. (Udupi Palace, 1460 Gerrard Street E.) Jay may like wings, but we like food from South Asia. If you're up to going a bit further afield, we'll be trying out the Thali (a platter full of food) at Udupi Palace (our first visit there, but it's been recommended) -- we're planning on being there around 6pm, if you want to join us just show up.  We've had enough people ('bout half a dozen) we know say they're coming that we've made a reservation to cover that many but beyond that, it will be "catch as catch can" :)

Getting there by public transit: Walk north to Carlton Street and take the eastbound 506 streetcar ("The Red Rocket") -- it will swing south to take you along Gerrard Street. The restaurant is a couple of blocks before the streetcar turns again at Coxwell Avenue.

(St. Louis Bar & Grill at the Atrium) Okay, really, who's kidding who here?  Jay still wants wings.  Jay needs wings now, more than ever.  Jay might even get a side of RIBS to go with those wings, 'cus why eat one dead animal when you can eat TWO?  Am I right people?!?  HELLS YAH!!!!!  GIVE'ER!!!!!!!!  Who's with me?!!?!!!?!!!!?  I'll book at table for 6-8 or whatever is availible.  Getting there around 6 pm.  First come, first covered in BBQ sauce.  Errr, yeah.  Something like that.

  • Official Podcamp Toronto 2009 Party (brought to you by Molson) 7:30 pm onward, "The Ram" at Ryerson, Ryerson Students' Pub at 63 Gould Street. Molson folks will be mixing and mingling and sampling brands with a few brand folks attending and Molson Brewer Ian Douglas.
  • Grab Dinner at The Ram! Ryerson pub the Ram in the Rye has a full menu just steps from the Rogers Communications Centre. Why not get dinner there?
  • Dinner at The Bier Markt 6:00 pm, with Kristina Lively and Jim Milles of The Shadow and James Show. Contact Jim at jim.milles at gmail.com or Twitter DM @jmilles to let us know you're coming.
  • Late Meetup @The Tap - Hey, it's Valerie from Description and Movies For the Blind. No matter what happens Saturday night, I'll end up at The Tap, my favourite pub, so why not come along? You were going to be sleepy Sunday morning anyway. So help me ring in my birthday with good cheap booze, a great vibe, bubble hockey in the back and DJ Moe Berg riding the wheels of steel with anything from Radiohead to Def Leppard to Waylon Jennings. Check out last week's playlist on myspace. I should be there around the midnight hour, but come whenever and chill. (Likely cash only - ATM onsite.) Location: 517 Bloor West (@Borden), about a block east of the Bathurst TTC station. Here's a map. Twitter @valerieinto with any questions.

Sunday, February 22, 2008

  • Add Your Lunch (ideally with a link to the location) Since Podcamp Toronto ends at 1:15 pm on Sunday, why not plan to meet with folks for lunch after the event?
  • My sister, @Sarah_McGaughey is promoting Rockin’ The Cradle a series of Indie Rock Concerts at the Tranzac Club on the Last Sunday of the Month for families and their young children. This month’s concert on February 22 from 1-3 pm at the Tranzac Club (292 Brunswick Avenue) features Bry Webb from the Constantines and a group called Positive Thinking Seminar Join Sean McGaughey, his family and others for this wonderful Pay what you can event.
  • @40deuce can't party Saturday night so why not have lunch with Sheldon instead??? If you like OK food, mediocre conversation and beer from a tap then you should come to the Jack Astors at Yonge and Dundas (around the corner from Ryerson) This is not going to be anything super formal. I'm hoping to just show up there and grab a large table after camp on sunday afternoon. But, if I hear a lot of people are interested in joining me (my ego has a sense of humor), I'll call ahead and make a reservation, so let me know if you're interested.
